Sentence and its types

Hello everyone, I am happy to write this blog about English basics which will help you in your day to day life and competitive exams. In this Blog we will see some topics about Sentence and Types of Sentences.



So let’s dive into today’s topic!


What is a sentence?

Sentence is a basic grammatical unit. It contains group of words and expresses a complete thought.

A sentence consist of a subject and predicate.

Example of a sentence: Robert was a good king. Here Robert is a subject and rest of the portion is predicate.

 

Simple sentence

A simple sentence has only one clause (clause is a group of words that contains a verb). Example of simple sentence: Ram was late.

 

Compound sentence

A compound sentence has two or more clauses. The clauses in compound sentence are joined by coordinating conjunctions.

Example of compound sentence: I really need to go to work, but I am too sick to drive. Here, But is a coordinating conjunction.

Let’s look into some common coordinating conjunctions: And, But, Or, Nor, Then etc.

 

Complex sentence

 

A Complex sentence has a main clause and one or more adverbial clauses (An adverbial clause is a dependent clause that functions as an adverb). Adverbial clauses usually come after the main clause.

Example of Complex sentence: Although he was wealthy, he was still unhappy.



Now we will look into Types of Sentences with Examples:

 

Assertive or Declarative Sentence

 

The Sentence that states or declares something (feeling, opinion, incident, event, history, or anything).

Example Assertive or Declarative Sentence: I am a boy.

 

Interrogative sentence

 

A sentence that asks a question and ends in a question mark is called Interrogative sentence.

Example of Interrogative sentence: Are you ready to go?

 

Imperative sentence

A sentence which express commands, request or desire.

Example of Imperative sentence: Bring me a pen.

 

Exclamatory Sentence

A sentence which express strong or sudden feelings.

Example of Exclamatory Sentence: You are beautiful!


Optative sentence

A sentence which expresses wish, prayer or blessings.

Example of Optative sentence: I wish you all the happiness in the world.

Adobe Photoshop is an amazing software which can be used for photo editing, logo making, photo retouching, creating graphic designs etc. etc. Photoshop has many tools which can used to get desired outcome. In this blog we will check some cool features of Photoshop Tools.
